On trouve là des produits de haute qualité ; qu'il s'agisse d'excellents choux à la chantilly ou de macarons qui ne le sont pas moins, des tartes d'un autre monde, du gâteau nantais où le rhum n'est pas galvaudé. Bref, s'essayer à inventorier l'ensemble des succulents produits proposés relèverait de la gageure. Perret et propriété de la ville de Saint-Pierre, a été entièrement rénové en 2019 par la Fondation Clément. Ce nouveau bâtiment ultra moderne en béton abrite les vestiges de l'éruption du 8 mai 1902. La nouvelle façade en bois brûlé est un symbole à la fois sobre et puissant au coeur de la ville. La collection présentée dans l'exposition permanente témoigne des éruptions de la montagne Pelée et de la destruction de Saint-Pierre en 1902.</p><p>Le parcours est organisé en trois séquences : tout d'abord pour découvrir la ville jusqu'à la veille de l'éruption, et revivre l'enchaînement des événements autour du 8 mai 1902 afin de comprendre les conséquences de cette catastrophe qui fit environ 28 000 morts et raya Saint-Pierre de la carte. L'audioguide fourni à l'entrée plonge les visiteurs dans l'histoire avec la présentation des objets d'époque, les témoignages des habitants et des rescapés. Au milieu de la visite, le mémorial dresse la liste des 7 000 victimes identifiées à ce jour. Enfin, peut-être le plus impressionnant, vous verrez des images d'époque de la ville d'après... Et la collection de verres déformés par la forte température ainsi que 2 cloches montrent l'impact de l'incendie qui s'est abattu sur la ville après la nuée ardente.
