Behind a discreet façade on the Île Saint-Louis lies one of the most surprising places in Paris: the Bibliothèque Polonaise. Founded in 1838 by Polish exiles who had come to Paris after the failure of the insurrection against the Russian Empire, it had a clear mission: to preserve the memory and culture of a country deprived of its sovereignty. Since 1853, the Library has preserved thousands of documents, manuscripts and works of art, and offers numerous cultural and scientific events throughout the year. Here, you'll first discover the Frédéric Chopin Salon, featuring memorabilia of the famous composer: scores, portraits, personal objects, a cast of his hand and his death mask. A moving place, evocative of Chopin's Parisian life. Later in your visit, you'll survey the Adam Mickiewicz Museum, Poland's greatest Romantic poet. His son has brought together letters, manuscripts, objects and memorabilia to tell the story of this emblematic figure of Polish culture. Finally, the Boleslas Biegas Museum presents the symbolist works of this painter, sculptor and poet, alongside works by other Polish artists living in France. The short, ever-changing menu features fresh, seasonal produce, creatively prepared by Chef Théo: each plate tells a little story. The decor, based on recycled materials, adds to the charm of this warm, unpretentious place. Sie wurde 1838 von polnischen Exilanten gegründet, die nach dem gescheiterten Aufstand gegen das Russische Kaiserreich nach Paris gekommen waren, und hatte eine klare Mission: das Gedächtnis und die Kultur eines seiner Souveränität beraubten Landes zu bewahren. Seit 1853 bewahrt die Bibliothek Tausende von Dokumenten, Manuskripten und Kunstgegenständen auf und bietet das ganze Jahr über zahlreiche kulturelle und wissenschaftliche Veranstaltungen an.
